The 2019 Chisholm Petit Verdot highlights why the variety is becoming so popular to grow in Virginia. It's open clusters and small, thick skin, highly ripe berries, create concentrated wines with weighty fruit character. Petit Verdot, is known for its rich color and phenolic density, the 2019 vintage is no exception. The tannins are rounded from its barrel aging, 18 months, on 50% new oak. We use 300L barrels for the new oak portion of this wine, allowing for a bit less air oxygenation through the barrel and surface area with the new toasting. The toast of the barrel is well integrated into the wine, with notes of boysenberries, cherry pie and black currants, leading to subtlety secondary notes of violets and sage. Vegan. 100% estate grown. 13.9% alc. Winemaker Maya Hood White, Early Mountain Vineyards.
